Is it legal to share my car in my country?

Updated today

One of the most common questions before starting to rent your vehicle on TripWip is whether this activity is legal. The answer is yes: in all the countries where we operate, sharing your car occasionally or commercially is allowed, as long as you meet certain basic conditions.

In this article, we explain what to consider to operate within the legal framework.

1. You use your own vehicle

The legal basis for sharing your car stems from a key fact: you are the owner of the vehicle or you have authorization to use it. This means you have the right to temporarily transfer its use to another person, either free of charge or through a rental.

📄 If the car is not in your name, make sure to have permission from the owner to list it on the app.

2. The rental is done under contract

Every time you rent through TripWip, a valid digital contract is generated, backed by our Terms and Conditions. This provides legal framework and formality to each reservation, clarifying the rights and obligations of both parties.

3. You have enabled insurance

Using insurance with commercial coverage or specific for rentals is what differentiates a legal operation from a risky one.
At TripWip, all reservations are protected by:

  • Our daily insurance with all-risk coverage, or

  • A personal insurance with rental clause enabled (in the case of Argentina)

✅ This allows you to operate legally, without putting your personal policy at risk.
