When you book, and for the safety of both parties, TripWip holds a security deposit. It's a hold, not a charge: the amount is blocked on your card and released when the rental ends.
The deposit is always held, in all three markets and with any payment method, credit or debit card.

In Mexico the amount depends on the insurance plan: the three values correspond to Basic, Gold and Platinum. In Argentina and Uruguay the deposit is the same for all three plans.
In Argentina, depending on the result of your verification, the deposit can be higher than the one in the table. The exact amount is shown at checkout before you pay.
When it's released
TripWip releases the deposit 5 business days after the rental ends. From then on, the refund is processed by the bank that issued your card, so it usually shows up within 5 to 15 business days, depending on the bank.
If there was an incident or a claim is still open, the hold stays in place until the case is resolved, and the 5-day period doesn't start. We'll keep in touch with you until it's closed. If the final cost is less than the held amount, the difference is refunded; if it exceeds it, the excess is charged. If the incident is not reported correctly or a police/insurance report is not filed, the insurance policy will not cover repair costs, and the deposit may be retained with additional charges applied. Generally, this verification process takes between 10 and 15 business days before the case is resolved.
What is the security deposit used for?
Deductible coverage. If there's an incident and the insurance kicks in, the deposit is used to cover the deductible you're responsible for.
Minor damage repairs. If the damage costs less than the deductible, the amount held can be used for the repairs.
Additional charges. Special cleaning under our policies, excess mileage, reported fines or other charges generated during the rental. If kilometers exceeded the agreed limit, the corresponding charges are directly deducted from the deposit at the end of the rental.
This deposit lets hosts share their car with peace of mind, and gives you the certainty that the amount is only used when needed and with good reason.
