I Detected a Mechanical Failure After a Rental: What Should I Do?

If your car has a failure after a rental, follow these steps to report it and receive assistance.

Updated today

To protect the interests of hosts and drivers, TripWip establishes the following protocol in cases of mechanical failures:

If you suspect that a mechanical failure was caused by improper use by the driver, you can request a mechanical assessment at the official workshop indicated by TripWip. At the time of reporting the failure, an amount of 400 USD will be withheld from the driver as a guarantee while the evaluation is conducted. You will have a period of 7 days from the return of the vehicle to carry out the assessment and report the findings to TripWip.

TripWip is not responsible for nor will it manage the collection from the driver for mechanical failures during a rental in the case of vehicles that are more than 10 years old or have 150,000 kilometers if they have not been subjected to inspection at the official TripWip workshop.
