When is the security deposit charged on TripWip?

Depending on how far ahead you book, the deposit is held when the booking is accepted or 72 hours before the trip. What happens if the charge fails.

When is the security deposit held?

When the deposit is held depends on how many hours are left before the trip starts when the booking is accepted.

If the trip is accepted less than 72 hours in advance

  • The hold is placed immediately when the trip is accepted.

  • If there aren't enough funds or the payment method fails, the user is notified and given the chance to change it. If it isn't resolved, the trip is automatically canceled and the booking is refunded.

If the trip is accepted more than 72 hours in advance

  • The deposit charge is scheduled for when there are 72 hours left before the trip starts.

  • If the charge fails at that moment, it's retried 24 hours later (that is, about 48 hours before the start).

  • The driver is informed when booking.

If there's an incident

  • The deposit already held is used; if there's a difference between the vehicle's deductible and the deposit held, the rest is charged.

  • If there are no incidents, the deposit is released 5 business days after the trip ends, unless there are charges for minor damage, fuel, excess mileage or dirt. How long it takes to show up on your card: When is the deposit refunded?
