When is the security deposit charged on TripWip?

When is the hold placed?

The moment the guarantee is held depends on how many hours are left until the trip starts:

🕐 If there are less than 24 hours left:

  • The hold is executed immediately when the host accepts the trip.

  • If there are insufficient funds or there is a problem with the card, the user is notified and given the opportunity to change the payment method.

  • If it is not resolved, the trip is automatically canceled and the reservation is refunded.

🕑 If there are between 24 and 72 hours left:

  • The hold is also placed at the moment the host accepts the trip.

  • If it fails, it is retried 24 hours before the start of the rental.

  • If it fails again, the trip is canceled and both parties are informed.

🕓 If there are more than 72 hours left:

  • The hold is automatically scheduled for 3 days before the trip starts.

  • The driver is informed at the time of booking that the amount will be held within that timeframe.

In case of incidents:

  • The already held guarantee is used; if there is a difference between the car's deductible and the held guarantee, the remaining amount is charged.

  • If there are no incidents, the guarantee is automatically returned at the end of the trip, unless there is an incident or an extra charge is identified for minor damages, discrepancies in fuel level, excess mileage, or dirt in the vehicle.
